Is there a way to get a full copy of XP home edition for
a total hard drive restore. The original came on an IBM
Net Vista and IBM is not very cooperative. The hard drive
is still functioning but I want to re format and re
install XP.

If you have OEM Windows furnished with the computer, Microsoft can not
do anything to replace your Windows XP.
Think of OEM as being manufactured, sold and supported by the seller.
Microsoft has no part in the transaction and therefore can provide no
support.(other than Windows Updates)

If you want a full CD, you will need to buy Windows XP.
Another of the many reasons you paid less for your OEM than I paid for
my retail version.

get the current license key, borrow an oem cd from a friend
and use your license key to activate legally.

Peter;
The product Key should be on the computer.
The tool you suggest will show the key used to image the computer at
the factory, rarely works for activation upon reinstall.
Also, most OEM CDs are not interchangeable.

- that program will retrive the key currently on the computer
- an oem cd not a manufactures restore cd
- are you saying that the exact same hardware cannot be
reactivated with the same key?

That program will retrieve the Key on the computer, the key on the
computer is the key used during factory image will probably not work
for activation. The 2 are usually different.

Restore CDs ARE OEM CDs. OEM CDs are not necessarily restore CDs.

The same key may not work with a different CD and there is no
requirement and should be no expectation that it will.
