I get this message below when loading a variety of
software such as Norton Firewall, Quickbooks, etc..
"Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX
controls on this page. As a result, the page may not
display correctly."
I am in a Windows XP Pro & Office XP Pro XP environment
with the latest downloads. Obviously something I
installed negatively effectived my active X controls.
Has anyone seen this and does anyone have a fix?
Thanks,

Hi Paul. Did you ever get your problem straightened out? I have the same problem. Can you help me?
Thanks, Lissa H

Launch Internet Explorer.
1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. In the Select a Web content zone to specify its security settings box, click
Internet.
4. Under Security level for this zone, if the security level is set to High,
move the slider down to Medium.
If it is not possible for security concerns to move the slider to Medium, then
follow these steps:
1. Under Security level for this zone, click Custom Level. The Security Settings
dialog box appears.
2. Under the ActiveX controls and plug-ins subsection Download signed ActiveX
controls, click either Enable or Disable.
3. The computer will still be protected from unwanted intrusions while allowing
legitimate program operations to proceed.
4. Click OK to close the Security Settings dialog box. Click Yes if prompted to
confirm the change.
5. Click Apply, and then OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.

Thank you for the reply. I did those steps and I still get the message. Is there a possibility that I have to uninstall everything in my laptop and reinstall it? Lissa H

I think some Norton security settings that you might apply
may go further than you intend and block some controls and
web sites.

Norton have to do with me not being able to run ActiveX

I took the Norton Antivirus 2003 off my computer, still got the same comment. Tried to put the Norton 2004 on, but it won't install. Any new thoughts?

Also the Norton statement is "Norton Antivirus (NAV) has encountered an internal program error. Unistall and reinstall NAV. 3005,584. NAV says the cause is either the digital signature of one of the program files has been damaged or a window service need
ed for NAV to run has failed to start.
I checked the window services and they say they are running.

Just removing the software does not undo the changes it
made.

Perhaps this site may assist further, if you need Java I've included the link.

Getting low on ideas here, you say you're running Nortons/Symantec - are you
running Internet Security including the Firewall.
If you are, bring up NIS and check your configuration in the Firewall. Check
your level of security - have you got it blocking everything? For example, are
you blocking activex settings. Have a look at your manual that came with
Nortons - look under Personal Firewall, select Configure, What is your slider
at, high, medium or low?
Click on custom level - it brings a dialog box, You'll see an Activex Control
Security box - have you set this on block all?

know ... picked the wrong box. I need help. Thanks again. Lissa H

Are we all using Norton?? My problem started 5 days ago with Security Alerts1005,1 and 1005,3. Went to Tools/Internet Options and I followed Nortons prompts and changed the settings to allow Active X and I still cannot get to secure pages ( any pages inclu
ding Microsoft security and Dell help)for help. Have done uninstall and reinstall 4 times ( NortonSystemWorks2003) and now have no virus protection. Will getting rid of all Norton Products solve this??? Any suggestions....? Thanks

Hi Nedummy,
When you make changes to the "Internet" zone on how IE handles ActiveX
controls in "Internet Options" it applies to every web page you will ever
visit. This leaves your computer vunerable to folks with less than noble
intentions... :)
If you open Tools, Internet Options, Security tab, and click "Trusted Sites"
you can add web sites that you know and trust, giving them less severe
restrictions.
Note: if all your sites do not begin with HTTPS you will need to uncheck the
box that says "Require Server Verification".
You can then set a "Custome Level" for trusted sites by Clicking on it the
Trusted Sites icon (on the security tab / previous screen) and then clicking
"Custom Level". But, just adding a page to trusted sites should do the trick
as the default level is pretty trusting...
You should also click on "Internet" and click "Default Level" to reset the
security for that zone.
Hope that helps.

I was also extremely puzzled by this problem for a long time. I discovered, quite serendipitously, that there was an extra user account on the system named 'Microsoft ASP.NET...' and deleted it accordingly. This fixed everything! I hope this helps someo
