DHCP: Lease renews upon every bootup????

WinXP Pro requests a new DHCP lease upon every bootup
eventhough it got one previously, which was good
for 30 days. Are there some net settings that would
prevent XP from requesting a new lease upon every boot and
keep the one it acquired 'till it expired?

Need more info.
What type of connection do you have(I assume cable)?
Any networks involved?
Any routers involved?
Are you shutting down or rebooting?
If it an external modem are you turning power off to the modem?
When the lease expires, is the ip address changing or just getting a new
lease?
Why does it matter if it requests a new one, what are you trying to do?

Using a router which is connected to a cable modem and is networked to 2 PCs.
I seem to retain the same IP, but gett a new lease upon bootup.
This bothers me in that it slows down my bootup time since my PC has to wait for a
new lease from the DHCP server (router). I'm hoping there's something
I could do at the terminal end SW and not have to mess around with the router settings.

I don't think there is anything you can do, that is the way its designed to
work.

Don't use DHCP if you don't want to wait for it.

Since you have essentially your own network on your side of the router,
why not setup both PC's with fixed IP addresses, e.g. 192.168.1.1 and
192.168.1.2. Use the same pattern as you set for your router.

DHCP is handy for home networks in only that it avoids the decision
about network IP addresses for millions of people who don't care. DHCP
was originally invented for use in large networks.

Curious: How do you know it's DHCP lease that you are waiting for?
