View Full Version : Limiting specific users' options

I work in a library and I am trying to limit the things
patrons can do. There are two main points I am concerned
about.
1. Saving to the desktop--I know that there are some
options in the IE security to prohibit saving to the
desktop but I cannot find a way to write protect the
desktop so that patrons can not create new links or
folders.
2. Seeing the network when they are in a browser. I can
put a limit on so they cannot put in a drive letter and I
can not show drive letters in My Computer. What I can't
seem to do is find a way to get rid of My Network Places
in the browse mood. Go to IE, File, Open, and then
Browse. Network shows up in the sidebar and in the
pulldown "look in" menu.
Would appreciate any help!

You can use a mandatory profile for the users. Then they will not be able
to change the settings

I think I have found at least one of my sollutions. I am
including it for anyone who may be doing the same thing.
To get rid of the network settings go to Group Policy
manager, User Configuration, Window Explorer. There are a
few settings there you can look at i.e, Allow only per
user or approved shell extensions, and also in the sub
directory Common Open File Dialog.
Still looking to lock out changes to the desktop.
