I recently bought a new computer with Win XP installed. I
have been told that the firewall included with XP does
not control outgoing transmissions from trojan horse
programs and I should replace it with another product
such as Norton Personal firewall. How difficult is this
to do? I am not a computer expert and am apprehensive
about creating more problems than solutions. Thanks in
advance for any help you can provide.

Very easy.
Disable the Windows XP firewall first:

An easier way to read newsgroup messages:

Please respond to newsgroup only for everyone's benefit.

And then install Zonealarm Free or Pro whichever you prefer.

Hi Jupiter,
If you choose to do this, please have the new firewall
software "in hand", and then disconnect your machine from
the internet before disabling the built-in Windows XP
firewall. Then install the new firewall before
reconnecting to the internet. This procedure is best,
since it ensures continuous protection.
best,

Thank you Jason for catching the not so small oversight on my part.
