Flickering "egg-timer" icon/Hard Drive light

I have noticed recently that the "egg-timer" icon often
keeps flickering on and off just to the right of the
mouse cursor arrow, while the Hard Drive light flickers
on and off at the same time. Is there a problem?
Everything seems to be working OK.
