I had downloaded a program that was bogus, so I tried to
remove it in add/remove programs. The uninstall program
couldn't find something it needed, so I deleted all the
files manually. The entry is still in add/remove programs
though. How can I get it out?

Hi,
Goto Start>>Run>>Type "regedit"
Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\
Uninstall, and remove any unwanted keys under "Uninstall."

That list is stored in the registry. If you are comfortable editing the
registry, the uninstall list is found at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall. Find the string there that
you see in the Add/Remove list and delete the key that contains that value.
Make sure you have a restorable backup of the registry before proceeding.
