View Full Version : How to run an application that requires NET BEUI in XP

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get an
application that requires the NETBEUI protocol to run in
the Windows XP environment on/through a Remote Access
Server (Dial up), since the NetBeui Protocol apparently
doesn't work (is not supported) in XP any longer, and can
only be installed after the fact - for LAN applications
and NOT Remote Access Servers (RAS)/Dial up???
The program that I am trying to run has a requirement
that NETBEUI protocol must be present and enabled.
FYI - changing the properties of the application to
operate under/as a Windows 2000 environment doesn't work
either...
Reference Microsoft article# Q301041
"After you complete the steps documented in Q301041, you
should be able to use NetBEUI on Local Area Network (LAN)
connections, however you will not be able to use NetBEUI
on a Remote Access Service (RAS) connection. RAS
connections cannot use NetBeui."

Any one have any IDEAS??
Thanks,

Post this query to the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web newsgroup for more information, but
NetBEUI is located on the XP CD in the valueadd folder.

Hi,

Have you checked with the application vendor to see if there is an upgrade?
As the article states, NetBEUI is not supported on XP and will not work on
RAS connections.

Greetings --

NetBEUI can be installed on WinXP, if you like, but it'll do you
very little good. The NetBEUI protocol is not routable, and therefore
will not work in any networking scenario where packet routing is
required, such as using a RAS connection.

HOW TO Install NetBEUI on Windows XP

You best course of action would be to contact the application's
vendor to see if they provide a patch or upgrade to allow their
product to be used on modern networks.
