View Full Version : automatically resetting passwords

A user logs onto the local machine using a local account.
The user then accesses a mapped network drive and XP asks
for a valid server username and password.

If the user accidentally ticks the "remember password" box
for the mapped network drive, then the next person who
sits down and logs on using the same local account will
have access to the previous users area on the server
through the mapped network drive.

There is a way to automatically reset the mapped network
drive password each time someone logs out.

I seem to recall seeing a tick box somewhere within XP
that says clear all passwords when someone logs off.

I cannot remember how to do this. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

If this is Pro, there is a policy in the Local Security Policy=20
at the Computer level in the Security Options under the=20
Network access: group to not allow caching of network=20
passwords.
However, what IMO is the better solution is to give each=20
person their own private account if this machine is intended=20
to be a general use machine, or if it is intended as a special=20
purpose then it should be latched so that the account cannot=20
map drives.
I have to leave Home for someone else to respond concerning.
