My Mom has windows XP and when she connects to inet,it
stays connected for about 1 or 2 minutes then disconnects.
She`s tried 3 different isp`s and they all do the same
thing.
The tx company has checked the tx lines and they`re
supposed to be good to go,so thats not it.
Where in XP do I look to see if this is a puter prob?
I know nothing about XP ,so please be specific.

Eddy,
If it's not a tx problem, there are two possibilities that come to
mind:
1) Spyware / virus infection.
2) Hardware (modem) defective.
Before trying to replace the modem (#2), check for spyware and
viruses. Have her immediately update her virus protection and do a
thorough scan. Also do a virus scan from:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Next, check for spyware. Use Spybot S&D and HijackThis (both free),
and expert advice at SWI Forums. Complete instructions at:

Yeah, I'd guess the modem is connecting at an optimistically high rate,
considering your phone line quality, and then crapping out. My Intel
winmodem did that. I never found the string to limit it back, so I
ditched it for my trusty dusty rockwell.
The Intel connected at 53k and then died. The rockwell connects at 45k
and hangs in there.
