The recent posts about lost passwords tell me how my
teenage son has been turning off the password I have set
as a penalty for bad behaviour. (XP PC four accounts,
great)
So how do I stop him rebooting in safe mode??!!
I am looking to set up something very secure and can keep
passwords safe away from the PC.
TIA

Ian;
Let him get to Safe Mode.
But first you go to Safe Mode and log in as Administrator.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select Administrator and then choose the option to set a password.
Then if you wish (I think I might), change all the passwords,
including his.
Keep him out for a few days or a week.
Make and enforce some guidelines for computer use.
Also there are ways around the password with the right tools.

But these tools just mentioned can (most of them) be prevented=20
by setting the machine (in the BIOS) to not allowing boot from=20
floppy, and setting a password on the BIOS.

Thank you Roger.
That is at least twice today I missed a not so trivial detail.
Unfortunately if the kid has physical unrestricted access...

No problem. The answer seemed so good I could not=20
resist adding to strengthen the recommendations some.
As you note, if they really want in and can crack into=20
the case, they will still have other alternatives.

Roger;
The bottom line here is the same for home and business.
Strict polices for computer use with appropriate action taken when
they are violated.
Make it very unpleasant to break the rules.
