wireless mouse

cant get wireless mouse to work on new hp computer. have
put in usb downloaded program from microsoft and started
and restarted computer no luck any ideas?

1. is it plugged in?
2. are you sure this port works? Works with another device?
3. didn't the mouse come with it's own software on CD?
4. what did you download and for what purpose?
5. check the batteries?
6. look at the troubleshooting guide with the mouse?

I know these might be a silly questions but sometimes we all miss the
obvious....

Is the reciever unit plugged into a USB port or did you use a little adaptor
that came with it to plug it into the PS2 mouse port?

Most wireless mice have a button on them that has to be pressed (along with
a similar one on the interface) to syncronise the two parts to the same
channel. Have you done this? If not go read the instructions again as the
exact sequence of button presses varies from make to make.

Did you put batteries in the mouse? Are they the right way round? If it's an
optical mouse can you see the light on the bottom?
