Recently I have a problem with XP that when it boots up it takes 5-10 minutes. It does not access the hard drive like it used to, only 10 % of the time. When it does finally boot the mouse response is so slow as to be almost frozen. You move the mouse a
nd it responds several seconds later.

Thinking I had a virus, I restored the system to an earlier date and this worked temporarily. While the system was working I updated my Norton AV and did a complete system scan, nothing detected. The next day the problem was back. I tried to restore to
the earlier date and it did not work. It takes several minutes to do a menu selection.

Any ideas?

John, have you checked for Trojans or Spy and Adware. You can use these
