What is an indexing service, and how do I fix it?
Thanks!

indexing servise is something you can use if you want all your files and
contents 'indexed' locally by the OS so you can have fast searching for
them. If you choose to turn this service on, and depending on how many
files you have etc, it can take a really long time to get the indexing done,
so your system will be real slow for a while, to the OS churns all the
stuff...
To open Indexing Service
1.. Open Computer Management (Local).
2.. In the console tree, double-click Services and Applications.
3.. Double-click Indexing Service.

Did you not even look at the link quoted at the bottom of your message? Too
lazy to look around for the very exact location on the BV site? I don't
know whether or not your system slowdowns are related to the indexing
service or not, but here, let me save you the anguish of searching the BV
site for yourself.
