Unfortunately there's a name game here. What you
disabled is the Messenger Service, which is not
MSN/Windows Messenger the application (msmsgs).
You can prevent Messenger from running at startup by
opening its Tools->Options menu, clicking the Preferences
tab, and unchecking the launch when Windows starts box.
