IS the partition running NTFS? if so the file may be set
to inherit the parent folder's attributes. To change,
click on the Security Tab, Advanced - you'll see a tick
box for inheriting rights#

The read-only checkbox is only the actual read-only attribute=20
setting on files; on directories it is a switch used to modify the=20
attribute on contained files.=20
Are you saying that after using this at the root folder of the=20
copied material, when you look at files within the area they=20
have not been changed ?
