When switching from 98 to XP all the documents in "My
Documents" were saved, but documents saved in other
folders on the desktop were empty even though the folder
remained. How do I recover the documents that were
embedded in these folders saved on the desktop. PLEASE
HELP, PLEASE HELP, O GOD....!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like you had a virus and/or some spyware, cleaned it up, and
it left references in Windows startup. To remove those references, go
to Start>Run and type "msconfig" without the quotes. Look on the
Startup tab and uncheck the box next to the likely culprit(s). Click
Apply and OK. If you *haven't* cleaned up your machine, then I suggest
you immediately: scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a
version not earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions)
show? Also, remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.security.kolla.de and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to
update these programs before running them. It is best to run antivirus
and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode.
Cheers,
Malke
