I'm runing XP Pro and sharing my computer with roomates.
How do I prevent them from gaining access to my files.
I've tried permissions and such but it doesn't seem to
work.

Scott;
Password protect your profile as well as Safe Mode Administrator.
Take appropriate precautions to protect and keep from losing the
passwords.
Disable Simple File Sharing:

Other users should be Limited Users as "Any Administrator can do and
undo anything any Administrator can do"

permissions (ACLs) certainly work. we'd be in deep tourble if they didn't!!
make sure your mates are not admins, and set ACLs on the files you care
about to

MyName (Full Control)

and nothing else!

Perhaps, after following the advise already given about=20
making sure there are no unsecured admin accounts,=20
if you still feel that setting permissions does not work, =20
you could tell why you say this.
With some specifics of what you did do and expect,=20
and what you see happening, we could provide some=20
directly useful assistance.
