I have been unable to setup newsgroups in Outlook 2000 as I could in Outlook Express 6. Outlook instructions are somewhat vague. Any help greatly appreciated.

It actually uses OE as the newsgroup reader.

Outlook does not read newsgroups. It uses outlook express in news reader
only mode. You can create a shortcut to it or use the view, goto menu in
outlook. The shortcut would point to here:
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews

Neither Outlook 2000, nor any other version of Outlook, has ever
had newsreader capability. By default, Outolok uses Outlook
Express to read newsgroups. The Window you get that says
"Microsoft Outlook Newsreader" is nothing but OE6 running in
newsonly mode.
So if you can set it up in Outlook Express, you can do it here.
It's exactly the same.

disguise). See OL Help.

Outlook uses Outlook Express as its newsgroup reader.

However, it also appears that Office 2000 can't use OE for newsgroups -
only Outlook 2003 can.

Since when?
To open OE in newsreader mode add " /outnews" so that the shortcut now =
reads "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews when you =
open the properties box. Then just click on the shortcut.
Outlook has no newsreader. The newsreader it opens is OE.
