View Full Version : Can't copy file in Recovery Console - Access Denied

I also posted this to the Setup & Deployment group.

Does anyone know how I can copy data files (for backup) in
Recovery Console on Windows XP Pro? It gives an "Access
Denied" error when attempting to copy.

The AllowAllPaths & AllowRemovableMedia environment
variables are set to False which is probably the cause of
this. I read that the Set command doesn't work unless I
setup Group Policy to add "power" to the Recovery Console.

Unfortunately, I can do this because I can't start Windows
XP Pro. It complains of a corrupt hal.dll. Chkdsk / p
identies unrecoverable hard disk errors. Yet, I can do
a "Dir" of the folders that have the data that I want to
backup.

Help! Any thoughts on how to copy in the Recovery Console
w/o installing Snap-In / Group Policy (which requires XP
to runs)?

Thanks,
-Bruce

You are likely looking at an upgrade installation, followed by=20
service pack (if CD is not SP1 integrated) and massive download=20
from Windows Update.
Then, once bootable, use Local Security Policy to change the=20
policy setting in the Computer policy tree Security Options for=20
Recovery console: allow floppy copy and access to all drives/folders
