routing internet explorer in winxp pro

Hi,

I want to use a small web server for my intranet. but I came across a
problem that the web server uses my ip number as web page name.

what I would like to do is change the hosts file for winxp to force internet
exploer to go to my ip number as I type in a name like 'home' or 'hisar' in
the address bar.

I tried to change the hosts file in winxp pro in the system32 folder but it
wont work as I intented it works for just one instance of the ip for example
I wrote

192.168.0.1 www.hisarx.com
192.168.0.1 http://www.hisarx.com
192.168.0.1 hisarx
192.168.0.1 hisarx.com

it just works with hisarx.com and none other what sould I do???

192.168.0.1 http://www.hisarx.com=20
is an invalid entry for a Hosts file.
Perhaps that is throwing it off - otherwise you=20
should be able to use Hosts as you are trying.
You said in system32, I assume you meant=20
devices\etc as its location ?=20
You could try also adjusting the LMHosts file.
