Hi again :( lm really really fed up now l am sick of
posting and no doubt you lot are sick of reading my posts
concerning SOUND!, everything works fine no conflicts
everything is up to date, but l cannot adjust my volume
at all.................... l have tried everything,
please please please has any one got round this yet? I
will pay you 1 million pounds (lol) if someone can get my
sound working! Thank you.

1) Boot from Win98 Install Disk
2) Start with CD ROM Support
3) At command prompt enter FDISK
4) Remove all partitions
5) Reboot
6) Format C: after boot
7) Install Windows98SE
8) Works great, doesn't it?
9) Make that Million Pounds to my favorite charity. This was too easy!

Forgive me, but I think you are missing something.
Go into Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices, and check ALL your
sliders in the "advanced" playback menu.
If this does not help your problem, find the maker of your Audio
device, and download the newest XP drivers for it. Uninstall your
audio device, re-install using new drivers. (This generally works
better than the "update driver" feature).
If your audio is onboard (like audio'97 or something similar) make
sure you have the right version for your board. SOME onboard devices
may have many drivers labeled almost the same, but for different
chipsets.
If all else fails, consider getting a new up-to-date soundcard, with
XP drivers.
Now a days, even the cheap ones have pretty good sound with good
features like "3D Sound" or "Surround Sound", and can be picked up for
as little as $7.
I definitely wouldn't trash XP for something as simple as a flakey
sound card.

Is the sound icon showing in the system tray ?

Check these as well:

Go to Control Panel, double click the Sounds and Audio Devices icon, Click
on the Audio Tab and make sure the right sound device is showing. Click the
Down arrow to see if there are other choices.

What model of computer do you have? (Compaq Pavillion -XXXX, HP-XXXX,
ect.......fill in x's with numbers).

If not a "Name brand" , but specially built, is it Pentium1-4?, AMD ?
Do you have a VIA, SIS, or Intel chipset?

Most of this can be found in "System Information" in the all
programs\accessaries\system tools\ branch of your start menu.

A little information, and I may be able to help you find what driver
you need.
