Several of us seem to have the same problem judging by other messages.

I also have used the "Make this folder private" option to protect all the
documents in my Personal
Profile and now I can't reverse this process. Under Folder Options I no
longer have "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" as an option. Also, the
Sharing tab in Documents and Settings Properties
has "Make this folder private" unchecked and grayed out. Next level down is
my username (or profile) folder "Shania". The Sharing tab
for this folder has "Make this folder private" checked and grayed out so
that it can't be unchecked.

My drive is also NTFS.

Are you using Windows Home or Pro.
The option to disable Simple File Sharing is not available in windows
XP Home.

Try taking Ownership of the file:
