Hi all,

I've seen similar posts on this group, asking the same questions, but I
can't find any answers...I will therefore be as specific as I can be about
what I am trying to do in the hope that someone can fill in the gaps...

3 machines, one running XP Pro (Server) and two running XP Home (Client1 and
Client2)

Simple file sharing is OFF on Server

I want to share a directory on Server so that Client1 can access it, but
Client2 can not.

I have remote login and remote desktop already working on Server, so I have
no problem gaining complete access over the network, but all I want is
simple protection to a shared directory.

Can anyone tell me how to achieve this?

Many thanks, Kevin.

To give a little bit more detail...

Guest login is disabled
On Server I create a folder
I open the share dialogue
permissions are set to 'read' only
I remove 'everyone' and add a user local to Server - User1
I go to Client1 and double click the chared folder on Server
Client1 responds that I do not have access

I have followed tutorials to the letter regarding this and they all say that
Client1 should prompt me for a username and password. I am never prompted
for anything, just refused.

Thanks for any assistance anyone can give me.

Kevin.
