Make my own icon

All I want to do is select a picture that is a logo of my
small home buisness and place it onto the file shortcut on
my desktop. I have looked high and low and still can't
figure out how to save my picture as an icon or how to
change the icon to the picture that I want. I have been
trying this for 3 months. Does anyone have an answer for
me?!

I have seen software which will do what you want but I do not remember the
exact program. I know it is an imaging program such as IframView

or Orleans Enhancer.

They are both free.
