View Full Version : Change Default Program Files location in XP

I've set up my desktop with the O/S on my 13 gig "C:"
drive, and my data files on my 80 gig "D:" drive. I'd
like to change the default software installation location
for the "C:\Program Files" folder to "D:\Program Files".
Probably a simple registry modification, but I haven't
been able to find it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

It is not that simple because there is no one single entry to define
this folder. I recommend that you leave PROGRAM FILES alone and create
your own PROGRAM FILES folder on D. Reinstall your applications and
choose the "custom" setup method to change the target folder for the
program files to install them to D:\PROGRAM FILES now.

I'm finding that out. Was hoping that there was a single
registry entry that defined this "variable", but I guess
not.
I've already created the "D:\Program Files" directory and
have been installing all of my apps into that location;
it just would have been nice to be able to avoid changing
the destination directory on all of my installs.
Thanks for your post.

Whopping!
Thanks for your input. Haven't had a chance to test this
yet, but it certainly looks like exactly what I was
looking for.
Thanks much!
