Error when booting XP Home

XP home will not boot normal; last known good config; nor
any safe mode. I receive the following error:

unmountable_boot_partition

Contact administrator (It recommends checking recently
installed hardware or software but I cannot get system to
boot.

Has anyone seen this before?

Power off, open the case and reseat the hard drive IDE ribbon cable at
both ends.
If that fails:

Otherwise go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer and
download their hard drive diagnostics.
