I work in a school with several hundred users. How do I
configure XP or W2K so that all Pupils have the same
Internet connection access (Currently I have to add the
Proxy Server settings for every time a new person logs on)
Also, I don't want several hundred My Documents / Account
settings on each machine as they're all going to save to
the network (WindowsNT Server).
I already have all pupils in one group and all staff in
another. I really only want these two profiles to be
used - whoever logs on.
Someone suggested making a sharedprofile folder and
copying default or All Users folders to that. It also
involved enetering c:\sharedprofile to the Users Profile
Path in User Manager on the server ... but I can't find a
single thing about it on the Knowledge Base.
Can anyone tell me why Microsoft can't put this as an
option in Control Panel - this must be a very common
problem.
Thanks for any replies

If you have two groups of users and what each to have=20
a different profile that is always the same you should=20
look into using mandatory profiles. You should find=20
this documents.
You can prevent the retaining of the local copy of a=20
roaming profile, and each account can have a server=20
based unique profile that is copied down at login and=20
removed at logoff. You should be able to find info=20
on using roaming profiles.
I do not know what you are using for proxy, but if=20
it is the old Proxy Server product from MS then you=20
should be configuring it to allow access based on=20
groups rather than accounts. That way you will not=20
have to modify the Proxy config for each new account=20
that is defined, rather just make sure it is a member of=20
the right group(s).
