I am using XP Pro and find that my program display is too
large to read. There are three rows and the third one is
only half visible. As there are so many programs there,
would it not be possible to reduce the display into
folders of a like nature, i.e. Photography, Games, Word
Processing etc. This would reduce the display to an
easier manageable amount. This was possible in Windows 98
so why not here too?

Hi,
Right click on the start button and click on explore. An explorer window
will open up allowing you to customize the All Programs menu. Here you can
add/delete folders according to your wish.

The All Programs items are stored at the following locations:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Start Menu\Programs

All the best,

You can do the same in XP.

Right click the Start button and choose Explore.
Right click again on the Start button and choose Explore All Users.

Every user's start folder items are a composite view of the shortcuts and
folders from these two sources. Create new folders and move your shortcuts
around until you're organized. Keep in mind that any changes you make to
items from the All Users folders will reflect in other users' start menus
too.
