Set BIOS to boot from CD...
boot from the original XP CD.

At first Repair option, press R key
Select the Windows OS you are having trouble with.

at the command line type bootcfg /list
(displays boot.ini contents)
Enter "bootcfg /rebuild" at the command line (w/o quotes).

Then reboot (remove CD and reset BIOS)

Should work now..in your particular case.

WinXP Pro and Home have boot floppy sets available online at MS,
best to use the CD....other than that I have no idea of your direction.

in run box..or any command line
(but you will need your original install CD or access to
location the original OS was installed from)

sfc /scannow

You can/should also make a "repair disk"...(floppy)
while in XP desktop... hunt for those terms inside "help" (F1)
And from these posts I'd suggest a "password reset" floppy.

Basically...you can do almost anything with WinXP,
just have to hunt a bit for correct methods/syntax.
