First a bit of background...
1) I know how to invoke ntbackup
2) I know the difference between different backup types;
normal, incrumental, differential..
3) I have succesfully used normal/differential backup
functions in other backup applications before

My problem is that ntbackup is not performing the way I
think it should. I have performed a "normal" backup on
Monday and I want to do a "differential" backup on
Tuesday. I would expect the application to know what
files & folders I have selected for the normal backup and
simply start a differential backup without my having to
tell it what files & folders to look at. But that's not
happening. I seems to want me to select the files and
folders again. This is a a problem because my selective
backup is not all in one neat folder, they are all over
the drive. And if I have to go through the folder
selection process all over again I may miss something.

Am I missing something? Can you explain exactily how to
perform a differential backup relative to a normal
backup? I have looked at countless articles and none of
them say anything more than what a differential backup is.

Many thanks

Using the wizard, you can not save the list of files that you've selected.
However, if you use the regular GUI interface you can make your selections
and then save them. Simply make your selections on the Backup tab, and
choose "Save Selections" from the Job menu. Then, next time you use
ntbackup, you can "Load Selections" on the Job menu and it will reselect
everything you chose.

As a bonus, you can also create a command line for ntbackup that will use
the selections you saved, so you can simply put two shortcuts on your
desktop - "Normal backup" and "Differential backup" and just doubleclick the
one you want. The command line can also be used to automatically schedule
backups as well. Type "ntbackup /?" at a command prompt to call up the
command line options help (it will open in a standard help file) to get all
the details.
