Can someone tell me what the registry keys are for
removing icons on the classic control panel. Also,
sometimes like right now I uninstall a program from the
add/remove programs option and the program uninstalls
fine but add/remove programs menu still lists the
program. Is there a registry key for this? Thanks

You can hide single items with TWEAKUI.EXE > Control Panel. TweakUI is
available from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp.

Simply double-click the entry. Windows will attempt to uninstall the
application and, because this fails, prompt you for if you want to
remove the entry.

I know about TweakUI and that is the only way I can do
it. I was wondering what the keys are. Also, I get no
option to remove the entry.

ET,
This should work;
1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press
ENTER.
2. Locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall
3. After you click the Uninstall registry key, click Export Registry File on
the Registry menu.
4. In the Export Registry File dialog box, click Desktop in the Save in box,
type uninstall in the File name box, and then click Save.
5. Each key under Uninstall represents a program that appears in Add/Remove
Programs. To determine which program that each key represents, click the
key, and then view the following values:
DisplayName - the value data for the DisplayName key is the name that is
listed in Add/Remove Programs
-and-
UninstallString - the value data for the UninstallString key is the program
that is used to uninstall the program
6. After you identify the registry key that represents the program that is
still in Add/Remove Programs, right-click the key, and then click Delete.
7. After you delete the key, click Start, point to Settings, and then click
Control Panel.
8. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
9. In Add/Remove Programs, verify that the program for which you deleted the
registry key is not listed.
If the program list is not correct in Add/Remove Programs, you can
double-click the Uninstall.reg file on your desktop to restore the original
list of programs in the registry.
If the program list is correct in Add/Remove Programs, you can right-click
the Uninstall.reg file on your desktop, and then click Delete.

I'll never understand this one. I did what you said and
when I looked in add/remove progrgrams, the program
(mediaface 4) had doubled. I now have two of them in
there. I can't figure that? I looked back in the
registry in the uninstall folders and neither is there.
They have to be somewhere though, right? Just where?
Any other ideas? Thanks

Well, I don't know what to do. The site was just like
you said. I did what you said. I tried to do a restore,
and for the date of and before I first uninstalled this
program it told me it wasn't able to restore. I've had
that happen before too where the it couldn't restore for
some reason. Usually the restore does fine though. It
is in the registry somewhere though, maybe under a hidden
code. Who knows? Fellowes Neato, the creator of the
program doesn't know anything either. I always get stuck
with these stupid problems. Thanks

Hi,
For number 1: Several options:
Go to Start/Search and type in: *.cpl and delete the icon in question. You
can also check here: Start/run regedit, navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr ent
Version\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace
Or...if you are running Pro:
Start/Run/gpedit.msc. User Configuration/Administrative Templates
Folder/Control Panel Folder. Select Show only specified Control Panel
Applets (right pane) properties. Select the enable button/click the Show
button.
A new window will pop up that will display control panel objects that are OK
to show. Items not on this list will not be displayed in control panel when
this feature is enabled.
Or...go to Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\don't load
Add a key named don't load. Next add String values within the "don't load"
Key. You will use one String value for each control panel applet you want
removed.
For number 2: go to Start/Run/Regedit and remove the invalid entries:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Uninstall
