View Full Version : Start/right-click/explore action...

Hi all,
Running XP Pro on one of my machines--when I select
Start|Programs|right-click a subfolder|Explore, instead of opening up
Explorer at the corresponding folder (C:\Documents and
Settings\[profile]\Start Menu\Programs\[whatever]), I get the Copy To common
dialog box. Then no matter how I dismiss it, Explorer doesn't load where
it's supposed to (or at all). If I select Open instead of Explore in the
right-click menu, I get the Move To common dialog box...with the same
results.
Any known fix? Windows Update doesn't show anything I don't already have...

This may happen if you altered the Registry at
Hkey_Classes_Root\AllFilesystemObjects\Shellex\Con textMenuHandlers.
There is a tweak around that you can add "Copy To" and "Move To" to
file and folder context menus by adding entries "Copy To" and "Move
To" here. While this works it has this nasty bug that the dialog boxes
show up at unwanted places as well.

Hi,
That is a common side effect; however most users deal with it as the copy to
and move to weighs out for the trouble caused.
To remove the settings, run the undo listed on line 45.

Interesting. At least now I know what caused that to happen. It's gotta be
a combination of that and something else though, 'cuz I have the same tweak
installed on other machines and only this one exhibits this behavior.

Hi,
Are there any other differences as to what is installed/listed here for each
machine:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ColumnHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandle rs
