BlankWhen I try to view the System information through the HELP & SUPPORT centre, and run the task of gathering system information I get an error GENERIC FAILURE and it happens when the task has reached 16%.

Also it says that some systems files are missing or removed but when I run
SFC.EXE /SCANNOW nothing shows up?
All files are there

Also I can't view advanced properties of the services my comp is running

What is causing this problem??
Need help with this one please.

Hi,

Go to Start/Run/ and type: msinfo32 /categories +all -loadedmodules

As for part 2, what is the exact error message? Is it perhaps that files
are missing when you try to run Search? If so, all of the workarounds are
listed here:

As for part 3, Advanced for Services where?

Dear Kelly
Thanks for the reply, the exact message I get is "Cannot Access Management
Instrumentation Software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing.

When I run the wbemtest.exe and try to connect to the root/default.
I get the error
No: 0x80041001
Facility: WMI
Description: Generic Failure.
The same error repeats when I try to view advanced properties.

I will look up the links and let you know if anything works. This is quite
frustrating as the machine is a standalone and otherwise working fine...

Cheer & Thanks

Hi,

Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in: net stop winmgmt. Then delete
the %windir&\system32\wbem\repository directory. Once done go back to
Start/Run/CMD and type in: net start winmgmt

Go to Start/Run/CMD and then run each of these hitting enter after each:

winmgmt /clearadap
winmgmt /kill
winmgmt /unregserver
winmgmt /regserver
winmgmt /resyncperf

If this doesn't help, try posting to this group:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.wmi

I tried this and when I ran system information again it gave another error
saying out of memory and so I restarted my comp but it reverted to the old
error message of "Cannot Access Management
Instrumentation Software. Windows Management files may be moved or
missing."

Is there anyway I can reinstall WMI ???
thanks for all your help
cheers
