View Full Version : Unauthorized Copy MSOICONS- After Full System Restore-Please Please Help

I would greatly greatly appreciate it if someone could
help me. After a full system restore (even changed the
partition drive size and chose settings to completely
delete all info) there is an unauthorized copy of
MSOICONS on my computer. So my computer is set up that
Microsoft & Sony files are shared. (I choose the settings
to make my computer files private.)
I already have a firewall and actually have started a
collection because the firewall watches someone hack my
computer and does not stop it. I am not a business so I
would think that purchasing a hardware firewall is a
little ridiculous but I will do it if necessary. Someone
was very nice at CompUSA and looked at my computer and
said there are no viruses/worms. (This hard drive is also
only about 3 months old.)
I have contacted Sony several times and they have not
been very helpful. I also contacted CyberAngels who was
not a whole lot of help. In the last year I have lost all
my belongings so I really do not have money to hire a
security expert.
Can someone please tell me how to get my computer back to
where it should be besides the obvious of a system
restore which I have done several times and is not
accomplishing anything. Also it looks like someone
totally reprogrammed my computer. (Sony Notebook Setup
does not support to model name of this machine. Please
get the newest Sony Notebook Setup. What does this mean?)
I would really really appreciate it if someone could take
the time to help me with this. My e-mail address is
posted above if you feel more comfortable e-mailing me.
Have a great day!

Greetings --
You've nothing to worry about. It's simply an oversight by
Microsoft's QA personnel.
I also have the same file, bearing the same information,
containing a few old MS Office icons. My copy of Office XP Pro was
purchased directly from Microsoft, so I'm confident that
its a legitimate copy. The file's "Unauthorized copy" label is a bit
of a mystery, though.

Hi Bruce,
Thank you for your help but I wish your advice was true
and that I have nothing to worry about. The person changed
around all the drivers and disk drives and programmed my
computer to resemble a palm pilot. Also changed the
settings so a system restore will not fix it.
Sony told me to get a new set of system disks so hopefully
that will do it.
