View Full Version : Automatic login no longer works after Service Pack 1

I installed XP service pack 1 including the .Net
framework. Now when I restart the computer, I have to
click on my user name in the Welcome screen to log in.
I'm the only user and did not have to deal with this
before, but I can no longer see how to turn this off.
Also, there is now a new user "ASP.NET Machine A..."
What is that? Can I delete it?

Thanks

Hi Larry,
You can restore auto logon by going to start > run and typing in control
userpasswords2
When the user accounts window open uncheck the tick box which reads 'users
must enter a username and password to use this computer' and click ok
(you'll be prompted to enter the user/pass you want to logon with at this
point).
The ASP.net Machine account was created by installing the .net framework 1.1
for the ASP.Net worker process used by Internet Information Services to
perform tasks. I would leave it alone if you wish to do any asp.net web
development in the future.

Hope that helps you
