Run a virus scan as well, just in case you were infected
with a virus which may be what is causing all of the
files. Also recommend a good firewall software. XP has
a built in Internet firewall which is pretty good. To
activate it, right click on My Network Places, right
click on your dial up connection, select properties and
then advanced, then check the box for protecting your
computer when on the Internet.
