I have a system with two hard drives, a boot and a
storage. i need to reformat, but i have all my programs
installed on the storage. will they still work if i
reformat and reinstall xp, or is it on a case by case basis

Hi,
Format only the boot drive and leave the storage drive
intact. then you will not have to back up the data. in
case you are planning to format both the partitons then
you need to back up the storage drive also.

Why not try reading the question before answering it? The
OP wants to know if there will be problems if he reformats
his boot drive, considering that all of his applications
are on another drive. The answer is "yes."
When he reformats the primary (boot) drive where Windows
resides, he will be wiping out the existing registry, so
Windows won't know anything about the programs on the
other drive. Applications will have to be reinstalled.
