I have a 798mb logical drive on my windows xp computer
which i want to use as a dedicated volume for my page
file. This is as much space as i can spare for my page
file, and ideally i would like to have a fixed size page
file taking up the whole 798mb of this volume because I
believe this will improve performance.
I've come across a couple of problems trying to set this
up.
1. windows requests at least 8mb of free space on the
volume containing the page file. What is this space for,
and is it advisable to leave more space than the minimum
windows requests?
2. i setup a page file with both max and min size of
782mb, leaving 16mb free on the volume, but i keep on
getting a message from windows that i am running out of
disk space on this volume (presumably because all the
space is allocated to the page file) and should clean it
up. I want this message to go away, as I do not believe
the lack of empty space on the volume is a problem. I
tried giving windows control of the page file size, but
it quickly allocated 767mb and the message returned.
3. I've yet to test this page file setup with any high
end games. I believe the idea will slightly improve
performance and reliability and contain fragmentation, is
this correct?
Thanks to anyone that can help.
