Wireless Networking

At The end of this week/Sat, I'm going to network 2 desktops using a microsoft
wireless desktop kit.
Connection will be Verizon DSL. Both desktops are HPs...one a 3 yr old running
ME, the other less than a yr old running XP home.
Anyone with advice in advance? All I've read so far advises to update the
drivers of the microsoft wireless pac before installing

If it was me I'd put them both on XP. ME has way too many problems.

I'm sure it will go fine. Just follow the instructions. An ensure you
configure the "firewall" which I hope is part of this kit. Keep out the
bad guys. They are there.

If there was a problem, it might be on the ME machine since it's old.
Try anyway before changing to XP (unless of courase you want XP ... but
upgrading ME to XP on an "old" machine may will introduce it's own set
of problems ... do one thing at a time).

win2000 is probably a more viable choice if you *did* want to upgrade
your ME machine. ME has a bad reputation as being bud ridden, but
this is 100% untrue. it uses the same kernel as win98SE, with an
updated database of drivers and a few extra wizards. I don't think
you will have any trouble networking the two of them, the router will
have a firewall built in using something called NAT. It's crucial you
get this configured correctly or you'll find all sorts of things like
sending files over AIM or playing a few select games won't work
without a properly configured nat firewall.
