After pressing ctrl, alt, delete- my task manager window
appears but without any of the tabs- no processes tab,
etc. I think I may have deleted something during one of
the attempts to see if I have a recent virus. How can I
reload the proper functions of the task manager?

You're running Task Manager in "Small Footprint Mode." Simply
double-click anywhere along the top of side borders.
Task Manager Menu Bar and Tabs Are Not Visible in Windows XP
