Some how I got three different "copies" of my printer in the operating
system. When I try and delete the two copies that don't work, I get a
"deleting" label put on the printer, but they stay there. Any ideas?

Make sure any application that may use the printer is closed including
background applications such as the fax service. If the printer is
"registered" in say, Word, Excell, or other program, it can't be deleted
before closing those programs.

Has your printer been working all right? My feeling is that if it
ain't broke, don't fix it.

Good points. Also there might be print jobs left in the que for some
reason. I've never been able to delete a printer under that condition.

If all else fails try the following:
Boot to Safe Mode {going to Safe Mode may be overkill}.
Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Look for any entries like:
{your printer} (Remove Only). If you find any, select and click on Remove
for each.
In Add/Remove Programs, if you find any programs installed with your
printer, remove them also.
In Control Panel, Printers delete all entries for your printer that are
still listed.
Shut down your computer.
Disconnect your printer.
Follow the instructions provided with your printer for installing.

Often the reason that delete printer fails is that there are files pending
printing in the spool directory. Navigate to
c:\windows\system32\spool\printers and delete any files that are there.
