I was able to download and install the updates but now I
can't see the microsoft update site. I get a THANK YOU
banner and some text that tells what the site does but
can't get past that. I think something is broken at
Microsoft... Surprise Surprise!!!!

I had that yesterday doing loads of critical updates on a friend's PC (31
updates!), after spending a few hours getting rid of that damn msblast worm
first. What a pain. As I did each one individually and allowed it to reboot
when it wanted to before going back to the site and scanning for updates
again (very tedious), I got the "thank you" page on a few occasions. I
closed the browser and clicked Windows Update again, and each time it then
loaded the proper update pages.

Every single critical update installed with no problem. Took around 12 hours
in all. (56k modem line. Urk.) It also offered an nVidia driver update,
which I haven't yet done coz I didn't really trust it, and I see someone
else has recently installed it and now has problems with her monitor
colours. Phew!
