Was your original install an upgrade over Windows 98 and you want to roll
back to the setup prior to upgrading? Or do you simply want to wipe XP off
the drive and reinstall Windows 98?
If you want to roll back then boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 while the
computer restarts. Select Safe Mode from the menu. Once in Safe Mode go to
Control Panel->Add and Remove Programs and select Uninstall windows XP.
If you want to remove XP and reinstall Windows 98 follow the information

Boot from a Win 98 Startup floppy, re-format the HDD and re-install!

Greetings --
If you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup the
old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, then all
you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
