Can someone help me with a problem that I have with my puter tring to
reconnect to a server even if I have closed the connection. I have the
"reconnect if line is dropped" unchecked. Seems that this thing wants to be
connected all the time. Thanks in advance. Charles

You need to look for software on your system that routinely looks for
updates or are set to connect for other reasons. For example, if you are
using Outlook Express and have it set to check for message periodically, it
will try to reconnect. In OE, go to Tools, select options, remove the check
from the "Check for messages" option on the General tab and in the
connection box, select "Do Not Connect" from the dropdown list.

There are many others. If you have Real Player, it is an option to connect
to look for news and updates and will do so not only every day but whenever
it can so you have to go through its options and turn those off. You may
have other software set to do the same and many antivirus programs have
autoupdate features that will keep trying to connect unless you turn off the
autoupdate function.

Windows XP also has an autoupdate function which will keep trying to connect
unless you turn it off. Control Panel\System\Automatic Updates.
