Hi,

I've just bought a 3rd computer with XP Home. I keep getting a warning regarding my CD / CDRW

'A CD-recording driver is installed that might cause stability problems... This driver may have been installed by Easy CD creator, Windows Media Player or RealJuke Box'

All the web links point to Roxio - but their sites don't appear to have a fix, the software versions I have on disk seem way out of date.

The CD RW is a Samsung SX-240B - I think the guy who put my computer together has installed a modern piece of hardware with some ancient software.

All I really need is a CD recording driver compatible with XP for this CD RW.

- or should I simply go back to the shop and throw my computer through the window?

Any suggestions?

Cheers

If he installed your software, your only option is to purchase the latest
version of Easy CD Creator or whatever such software of this type you want.
If he installed out of date software that he bundeled with the system, by
all means take it back, this is his issue and he should have provided you
with compatible software.

Shooter,

Tried finding out if there was a new driver or BIOS update for it but that model number doesn't show up. Are you positive about the model number?

Check the Samsung site

Roxio has XP updates for version 5 of EZCD, if you have
version 5 you can download the update to version 5.3.5
otherwise you need to buy new software.

Many thanks for your advice.

There is actually a fix I found this morning - Ver 4 of Easy CD Creator not only needs uninstalling, but its registry keys deleting too - the system then reverts to sensible XP cd writer drivers.

For future ref is MS Knowledge base article # 315345

Since the OP is getting a message from XP that there is a compatibility
problem, he will need to buy a new verion of EasyCD Creator, because it
appears he has version 4 (all version 5s are compatible with XP) and can't
use any of the upgrades at Roxio's site.

Brian, the Direct CD component of Easy CD Creator version 5 is not
compatible with XP without a patch from Roxio and unpatched will produce a
message of incompatibility. Also, if an individual does a full install of
Easy CD Creator 5, it will install the Take Two component which also is not
compatible with XP.
