Can someone please let me know if in Windows XP if these items are still
available. I just went to Windows XP from W2000 and I'm using the XP menu
1. Ability to sort the items in the Start Menu.
2. Ability to customize items on the right handside where items such as My
computer, Run, etc. is located. I know I can go to Advanced and click to
show items or not, but I want the capability to delete / add my own items.
For example, there is a manufacture link which I want to remove. For my
listing, there are four sections (My Computer and others / Control Panel /
Search and Run / Manufacture link).
3. On the left had side where IE and Outlook is shown (above recently open
programs), can I add items there. I know these are driven from the defaults
selected, but would like to customize if possible.

Hi,
Thank you for posting!
To answer your questions:
1. Yes, we can still sort items. Click Start>All Programs. Right click any
item and select Sort by name. You can find the the items are sorted.
2. No, there is not a user interface to do so.
3. Yes, we can drag and drop shortcuts to this field.
Hope this answers your question. If you have any concerns, please let us
know.
Thank you!

1) Right click in any column of the Start Menu and select "Sort by Name."
2) No obvious way to do this with XP but found a reference to a registry
tweak at MVP Kelly Theriot's website for this:
http://www.tweakxp.com/display.aspx?id=725
The example for this tip shows how to add an URL to the same location where
the OEM link is at. It also shows the registry edit needed to remove that
URL. You may be able to use this info how to work out the removal of the
OEM item.
3) Right click on any shortcut or executable and select "Pin to Start
Menu."

Hi,
For number 2:
Several options:
You can replace either My Pictures or My Music with a specialized folder of
your choice. It will behave as the above folders do as in cascading, etc.
Add Folder to Start Menu - Replace MP or MM (Line 2)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Or you can add a folder or link under Search and Run. Note: If you running
an OEM, it will replace their link.
Add a Folder Under the Run Command (Line 180)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
And/or: Add a folder to My Computer, Desktop and Right Click (Start Button)
Add a Folder to My Computer and Desktop (Line 130)
Add a Folder to the Start Button - Right Click (Line 124)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Another option is adding a special folder to My Documents as a sub.

Good information!
Yes, since there is no UI, you will have to tweak the registry to add the
items.
Thank you!
