microsoft word

When I open up a new document in microsoft word an old
document appears from some previous work and not a blank
page. how do I get ride of that old document so that I
get a blank page.

You did not say which version of Word you are using, so this may or may not
work.
Go to \Documents and Settings\{your name}\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates
and look for a file called normal.dot. rename this file to something else,
then launch Word again.
Application Data is a hidden folder so you will have to make sure you can
view hidden folders to find it.
