View Full Version : dllcache is 447MB!

With a lot of installing and reinstalling programs, I notice my dllcache in
System32 has grown to a bulky 447MB.
My question: To save disk space, could I burn the dllcache folder contents
to a CD-RW (regularly updated with new inclusions) and delete the folders
contents? Are there some .dll backups which need to be there all the time?

What you could do, is go to a command prompt and type:
sfc /purgecache
However, you will need the Windows XP CD to reinstall the protected
system files to the dllcache folder. Do not run /purgecache if you don't
have that CD!

Fast reply, null, thanks!
I DO have my original Windows XP Pro CD, but it is pre-SP1 (I never
slipstreamed it). Thus I think I'll lose all of the Microsoft updates to SP1
I've done on the Website. Is this true?
Another question. I've used SFC once before on XP. Will it automatically
launch to replace the protected system files from CD if I use the command
sfc /purgecache? Thanks.
