Run System Restore. Go to Start->Help and Support->Pick a task. click on the
link to System Restore. Use the wizard to "Create a rsystem restore point".

Thought you were going to offer some advice. A well placed question mark
in the subject line would help.....

What if XP Home came pre-installed on PC and you do not
have CD's to load back-up facility manually? I have a
product key only stamped on the PC - is there anyway I
can download from Microsoft?

Thanx

Mark,

Some OEM's include the ValueAdd folder on either the media or the UP
(Utilities Partition) that is created on their drive. You first line of
action would be to contact your OEM for assistance on this. To answer the
questions posed, there isn't a Microsoft download site for the ntbackup.msi
installer.

Best regards,

Unfortunately, if the OEM did not include this folder with your reinstall
media, no. There are some nice third party programs available though.

You should have a secondary backup in any case because Restore
sometimes fails. Frequently recommended here is erunt.zip, a 575K
freeware utility.

The best backup utility I've found to date is PowerQuest's Drive Image
v7.0. Beats Norton Ghost or any other backup application hands down.
No competition. Of course, it's not free but depending on how much
you value a secure system, it's worth every, last penny.

Drive Image is not a backup program but an imaging program. There is a
difference.
